Will I need to pay duties / taxes?

We believe in complete transparency, so where possible we collect the applicable EU taxes and import charges upfront at checkout.

In simple terms, when you order from us in the UK, you are importing goods into the European Union. This means EU VAT and, depending on the order, customs duties can apply. These are government-imposed import charges — they are not additional fees created by us.

For eligible orders with a value of €150 or less, VAT can generally be collected at checkout through the EU’s import system. Since 1 July 2026, the EU has also introduced a temporary €3 customs duty per applicable item on qualifying low-value consignments up to €150.

For example, if your order contains several separately declared items, the €3 charge can apply to each applicable item rather than simply once to the entire parcel.

For orders over €150, different customs rules apply and the charges can depend on the type of goods, their value and the destination country.

Where our checkout allows us to collect these charges upfront, the amount you see and pay at checkout is intended to cover the applicable import costs, rather than DHL contacting you later asking for payment before delivery.

This is important: VAT and customs duties are not revenue that we simply choose to add to your order. They are charges created by EU tax and customs rules for goods entering the EU from outside it. We cannot simply remove them or absorb them without effectively paying the customer’s import liability ourselves.

Our aim is therefore to make the process as transparent as possible: you pay for your products, shipping, and any applicable government taxes or duties upfront, so there are fewer surprises when your parcel arrives.

Your Shipping Concerns, Answered

Everything you need to know about our shipping costs, delivery times, tracking, insurance and duties — all in one place.

Your shipping seems expensive, why?

Our shipping rates reflect the level of service included. We use DHL to provide fast, reliable delivery, full end-to-end tracking, and cover for the full value of your order. For international customers, applicable duties are also charged upfront at checkout, so there are no unexpected charges when your order arrives.

Why am I being charged so much for shipping, taxes and duties?

We understand that the total cost of an international order can sometimes look high, but it is important to understand that shipping, taxes and duties are three completely separate costs.

Shipping is the cost of physically getting your order from us in the UK to you. We use DHL because our products can carry significant collectible value, so we prioritise reliable international handling, full end-to-end tracking, appropriate shipment cover and fast delivery. This is a passed-on operational cost — it is not simply additional profit added to your order.

Taxes and duties are different. These are charges imposed by the government or customs authority of the country you are importing the goods into. They may be based on the value of your order, the type of goods being imported and the rules of your destination country.

Where applicable, we collect these charges upfront at checkout. This does not mean that we are charging you an additional fee ourselves. Instead, the applicable amount is collected as part of your order so that the relevant import charges can be accounted for before or during customs clearance.

The benefit is transparency: rather than purchasing an order and later receiving an unexpected customs bill before your parcel can be delivered, you can see the applicable costs from the beginning.

These taxes and duties are not optional charges that we can simply remove or absorb. They are a cost associated with importing goods into your country. If we were to cover them ourselves, we would effectively be paying a customer's personal import liability out of the value of the products being sold.

We therefore keep things transparent: you pay for the products you purchase, the cost of shipping them securely to you, and any taxes or duties required by your country. We do not artificially hide those costs within our product prices or pretend they do not exist.

Why can another UK company ship to me for less?

You may find cheaper shipping elsewhere, but rates can vary significantly depending on the courier agreement, destination, parcel value, service level, insurance and whether duties are included upfront. A cheaper headline rate doesn’t always represent the same level of service.

Our rates are based on using DHL for fast, reliable delivery, full end-to-end tracking and appropriate cover for the value of your order. For US customers, applicable duties are also included upfront, meaning the price shown at checkout reflects the total cost of getting your order to you.

Can you lower your shipping rates?

We regularly review our shipping rates and always aim to keep them as competitive as possible. Shipping is a passed-on cost rather than a profit centre for us, and our rates reflect what we are charged for the level of service provided. We won’t reduce costs by compromising on tracking, insurance, reliability or delivery speed.

Why don’t you use a cheaper courier?

Cheaper options are available, but they often come with slower transit times, limited tracking, lower compensation limits or less reliable international handling. As trading cards and collectibles can carry significant value, we’re not prepared to compromise on the protection of your order.

It’s the same principle most collectors would apply when sending high-value singles overseas themselves — would you really risk sending them using the cheapest service available?

We use DHL because it provides the speed, visibility and level of cover we believe is appropriate for higher-value shipments.

Why do I need insurance?

Many orders contain limited or collectible products that can be difficult or impossible to replace. Appropriate cover protects the full value of the shipment if something genuinely goes wrong in transit.

Why is shipping more expensive than the item I’m buying?

International courier costs are based on the shipment rather than the retail price of an individual item. On lower-value orders, the shipping cost can therefore represent a larger percentage of the total purchase.

Why can’t you just send it untracked?

Because neither you nor us would have adequate protection if the parcel were delayed, lost or disputed. We require tracked shipping so there is clear delivery visibility from dispatch through to arrival.

Why is shipping the same/similar for a small order?

Courier pricing isn’t based purely on the number of items in your basket. There are fixed costs involved in international tracked shipping, insurance, handling and customs processing, even on smaller orders.

What is a working/business day?

A working day (also referred to as a business day) generally means any day that is not a weekend or a public holiday. In most commercial and legal contexts, this is understood to be Monday – Friday, excluding recognised UK bank holidays. Working days are typically calculated based on standard business operating hours rather than a full 24-hour period.
